My toilet area is separate from the bathroom.  Thankfully, it is a small enclosure.  The trouble with the toilet area is that it has no heating to speak of.  In the depths of winter, as you can imagine, it is damn well cold.  Let me tell you, it can be quite a shock to the system to sit on the freezing cold toilet seat.  How to warm the place up?

Well, I could turn up the central heating in the hope some of the heat will make its way to the toilet, but that ain't gonna happen, not with the price of gas these days.  But I have worked out a solution that shouldn't cost the earth to run, though I shall be keeping an eye on the meter to check.  What I have done is this ...

First of all I have added a 2 KW electric wall heater, the type with a pull-down cord.  This bangs out the fan-assisted heat like no tomorrow.  This is great to pre-heat the toilet area before use, but it still requires manual intervention.  In other words, you have to enter the toilet to turn the thing on and then wait a while before using the toilet.  As you can imagine, this isn't an ideal setup.  But, step in a temperature-controlled socket.

Right next to the wall heater is the electric socket.  Into this I have inserted a temperature-controlled on / off device.  You can set the temperature you want for whatever connected device you want to control.  I have set the wall heater to come on at any temperature below 20 C and to turn off again at 21 C.  Leaving the wall heater turned on at all times enables to socket to go about its business.

These temperature-controlled sockets are marvellous.  I use them to control a number of devices I have scattered around my home.  They are dead easy to setup and seem ultra reliable.  I swear by them.
